On-snow review

We had never tested this exact model before because Elan had always sent the outstanding version one width larger. The Wingman 83 Ti also earned praise for its versatility and friendliness, although many thought it would have performed even better one size longer. Comments included: “A major positive surprise. Easy and pleasant for all-day skiing. Medium-radius arcs are what they like best, and changing rhythm presents no difficulty. They absorb smaller irregularities very well. An 83 mm waist still permits quick edge changes, and the rebound is respectable too. Many recreational skiers will have tremendous fun on them.” Another tester wrote: “Excellent skis, slightly narrower than the better-known Wingman 86 CTi. That gives them pleasant initiation on groomed pistes and at lower speeds. Add pace and they guide you securely through relatively short arcs without surprises. You can venture off piste confidently, although in deeper snow the tips may suddenly dive.” We also heard: “The very forward binding position makes initiation exceptionally easy. Even so, they track medium-radius carved turns beautifully and smoothly. Good grip on hard snow. The tips are slightly restless, but not enough to spoil the fun. A little too short.” This was followed by: “More piste-focused than truly all-mountain. They bury themselves in soft snow, although with some effort they will carve through it.”

Tester’s take
“Refined in every respect. Skis for the whole day and for both hard and soft conditions. They adapt to the skier’s style. They can feel velvety and relaxed, but under firm pressure they become dynamic and charge like mad. No adaptation time is needed – you understand them from the first turn.”
