On-snow review

These skis are already familiar to our female testers. Light and friendly, they nevertheless divided opinion. Some regarded them as excellent for women who want to progress; others pointed to the low weight and the limited stability that comes with it. Comments included: “They cope well in difficult conditions. Excellent in short turns and enjoyable in long carved arcs. They are relatively light and audible while skiing, which makes it psychologically difficult to trust them completely. Once you do, however, they grip genuinely well.” Another tester wrote: “Skis for cheerful resort cruising. Fairly light, easy to steer and gentle on the legs. Typical women’s skis.” We also heard: “Versatile and easy to control. Less advanced women will cope with them. At higher speeds they wander slightly. Turn initiation is easy.” This was followed by: “Enjoyable, easy skis. You can link turns nicely because they do not accelerate without limit. They chatter a little at high speed. Overall, they are very comfortable because the area beneath the boot provides a secure platform.” From the other side came: “Very light and turny, but unfortunately unstable in long arcs. They wandered on run-outs. Suitable for less advanced skiers making snowplough and skidded turns, but not especially good for clean carving.”

Tester’s take
“The Super Joy is as dependable as ever. These skis require little effort, are exceptionally pleasant to steer and almost turn by themselves. Ideal for women who simply want to enjoy skiing. Excellent for intermediates who do not feel secure at higher speeds. They run almost by themselves, need little strength and are fun even at modest speed.”
