On-snow review
The MX74, sometimes designated MX75, has been part of Kästle’s range since the brand returned to the market. It has been modernised repeatedly while retaining the character of an ideal All-Round ski. This version earned applause and took first place on points. Comments included: “An absolute hit! It is astonishing how easily they alter the turn radius despite their length. They ski everything and fear no speed. Exceptionally stable through the turn and extraordinarily quick from edge to edge. The minimalist design is another plus.” Another tester wrote: “Enormous pleasure. Comfort and stability without sacrificing rebound or turnability. They are phenomenal on a slightly uneven piste with piles of pushed-up snow. They carve arcs with the precision of a samurai sword and break through difficulties with lightness and grace. Their energy encourages you to summon 120 per cent of whatever strength remains, yet they do not exhaust you. You simply want more. Brilliant, versatile skis.” We also heard: “Highly versatile and supple. They work on an uneven piste, although they most enjoy being on edge. They engage rapidly and almost tighten the turn by themselves. You need to become accustomed to the tips ringing on fast run-outs.” This was followed by: “Every descent is a new adventure. They track every kind of turn superbly. On steeper pitches they enter a skid confidently and without nervousness. Put them on edge and they run evenly, securely and with stability. In longer turns a certain nervousness may appear, but greater pressure settles it.”
“Pleasant skis – exceptionally smooth and straightforward. They offer no surprises because they are utterly complete, intense and precise. A treasure for skiers seeking precision and stability.”
