On-snow review
The narrowest member of the Montero family, through which Stöckli is successfully trying to escape its image as a purely race-focused brand. For many testers, it represented the essence of this category; others complained that it felt too much like a slalom ski. On points, it finished just off the podium. Comments included: “Excellent and complete – the crème de la crème. Pleasant rebound and a flexible radius. They return all the energy you put in. For every condition and worth every penny.” Another tester wrote: “Like a Swiss Army knife in expert hands – always ready for any piste. They absorb irregularities extremely smoothly and remain stable in extension-unweighting turns and skids. Relatively stiff, yet they do not require exceptional strength. They cope well with piles of pushed-up snow.” We also heard: “Premium quality, harmony, comfort and cruising. The sun shines and the skis run like a knife through butter. Everything is pleasant. You are driving an S-Class from the back seat. They remain stable at higher speeds, but above all the comfort never disappears. And the neighbour is jealous.” This was followed by: “Skiing them feels like travelling first class. They damp every irregularity with astonishing comfort, initiate without effort and track whatever arc you select with perfect smoothness. Rhythm changes are easy and edge grip excellent. There is nothing to criticise. Exceptionally comfortable, easy and pleasant – and therefore slightly boring.” Less satisfied testers wrote: “Like wider, supple slalom skis. Comfortable, easy and extremely friendly. Secure on edge. They do, however, lack a little spirit and never create much excitement.”
“What skis! They feel light and beautifully smooth even though they weigh as much as the competition, perhaps more. My favourites in the group – particularly excellent for more lightly built pilots.”
