On-snow review

The Peregrine line enters its second season and has already become highly mature. Many of its models, including this one, use Völkl’s so-called 3D radius – in other words, variable geometry. Most testers liked the skis and awarded them a high points score. Comments included: “Solid skis for versatile piste use. They provide complete control without exhausting you and feel dynamic when changing rhythm. Ideal for someone seeking a versatile ski that still allows enjoyable long and medium turns.” Another tester wrote: “Mature, powerful and smooth. They grip well, charge through piles like a battering ram and keep tip chatter under control. They tighten the radius effectively, although not linearly – and that has an advantage. Drive the knees towards the snow at the end of the turn and the skis catapult you into the next arc. Master that response and they offer a great deal of fun.” We also heard: “These skis deliver above-average rebound for an all-mountain model. On piste they are almost painfully stable, but off it the edges can grab too strongly. They love speed and made me feel as though I were on GS skis. Flat rocker at both tip and tail means they need time to initiate and to find the correct balance. An interesting one-ski option for ambitious skiers.” Finally: “Average skis. Quite pleasant, but lacking personality. They favour longer arcs without feeling exceptionally stable on edge. Calmer skiers may enjoy them.”

Tester’s take
“For any ambitious skier, these would make an excellent third pair after GS and slalom skis. Variable snow and changing gradients are exactly what they enjoy. They obey the pilot beautifully and inspire safety and confidence. Transitions from soft to hard snow and back again present no difficulty. Good grip, easy rhythm changes and smooth movement from edge to skid create a genuinely versatile ski.”
