On-snow review

Völkl’s consumer slalom ski enters another season unchanged. Most testers liked it, describing it chiefly as easy, predictable and supple, although there were exceptions. Lighter testers were particularly enthusiastic. Comments included: “True racing Tigers. Outstanding skis with superb rebound. They feel as though they are mounted on springs, returning beautifully into the next turn. Lightning-fast from arc to arc, with excellent edge grip. They are stable and actively seek the turn. Enormous fun – the grin never leaves your face. Very good in the gates too, with complete control.” Another tester wrote: “Very ‘civilised’ slalom skis for people who enjoy short turns in almost any conditions. Undemanding and quick to initiate without requiring great strength. On hard snow, when you want them to release promptly from the arc and return energy, there is no need to wrestle with them. Probably more suited to free skiing or to slalom for lighter amateur racers.” We also heard: “The good old, proven Racetiger. Highly predictable and easy to steer. Almost anyone will manage it without difficulty. It could use a little more power at the end of the arc – tester weight 110 kilograms.” This was followed by: “A surprise. Fairly supple skis, but effective and forgiving in a slalom course because of that flexibility. Not as stable as the best models when skied dynamically on a steep pitch, but an excellent choice for lighter people who do not want to use too much strength.”

Tester’s take
“These skis have everything needed for great fun carving slalom turns: excellent rebound and spring, together with confidence and predictability. Quick in the gates and agile among the bumps.”
