On-snow review

Entering an all-mountain ski in the VIP category is a bold decision, but these are exceptional. Most testers were positively rapturous, and the skis missed the podium by only a small margin on points. Only strong, heavier men wished for the next length up. Comments included: “All-mountain skis with a double dose of carbon fibre. Comfortable both on hard pistes and over rough terrain. Very turny, with a particular appetite for medium and short arcs. They are springy on piste – the carbon does its job and sends you into the next turn. You do not feel the width underfoot, and they are quick from edge to edge. They cope well in difficult conditions, although the aluminium-reinforced Ti version may be better there.” Another tester wrote: “They provide tremendous enjoyment. Very stable through the arc, with strong edge grip. Extremely versatile: step in and ski – they adapt immediately. Among the best.” We also heard: “The easiest skis in the group. They will get you down any mountain, however tired you may be. You can tighten the turns, but if you prefer, they will run with stability through long and medium arcs. A fine choice as your only ski. They forgive mistakes.” This was followed by: “Elan has a gift for producing wide skis whose width you simply do not feel. Very turny, outstanding over uneven snow and quick from edge to edge. Manoeuvrable and comfortable, with character and plenty of energy. Driven actively, they are not afraid of considerable speed.”

Tester’s take
“It was hard to give them back! Ideal on hard snow: they initiate easily and track every turn with tremendous confidence. That ‘86’ surely cannot be the waist width, because they feel as easy and dynamic as a 76. Do not be afraid of the length – choose them as tall as you are. These skis let you drop the hip towards the snow without the slightest fatigue. For everyone, in every condition.”
